About Express Entry
Canada Express Entry is the most popular way for overseas skilled workers permanently residing in Canada. It is a point-based system that assigns points based on abilities, job experience, Canadian employment status, and provincial/territorial nomination.
The higher your CRS score, the better your chances of earning an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a Permanent Residency in Canada. Candidates submitting their Canada PR applications through Express Entry are more likely to be selected.
Express Entry handles applications for three different immigration programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Federal Skilled Trades Program
Canadian Experience Class
Eligibility and Requirements for Canadian Express Entry
Eligibility Criteria:
The Express Entry eligibility limit is 67 points out of a possible 100. To apply for a PR visa, you must obtain at least 67 points across multiple eligibility requirements. The Express Entry eligibility points calculator is based on the following criteria:
- Age: If you are between the ages of 18 and 35, you will receive the most points. Those over this age will receive fewer points.
- Education: Your minimal educational qualification in Canada must be equivalent to the higher secondary education level. More points are awarded for higher levels of schooling.
- Adaptability: You can get 10 points on the adaptability criteria if you have family or close relatives who live in Canada and will be able to support you when you relocate there. You can also receive points if your spouse or legal partner is willing to accompany you to Canada.
- Arranged employment: A genuine work offer from a Canadian firm entitles you to ten points.
- Work experience: You must have at least one year of work experience to receive the minimum number of points. More points will be awarded if you have more years of job experience.
- Language ability: To be qualified to apply and achieve the minimum points, you must have at least 6 bands in your IELTS, which is comparable to CLB 7. More points are awarded for higher scores.
Requirement Criteria:
- In the last ten years, you must have at least one year of experience in a skilled occupation
- 7 is the minimum CLB score (in English or French)
- ECA stands for Education Credential Assessment
Steps to Create Express Entry Profile
To create an express entry profile follow these simple steps
Step 1# Complete your ECA
If you received your education outside of Canada, you need to obtain your Educational Credentials Assessment or ECA. The ECA certifies that your educational qualifications are equivalent to those accepted in the Canadian educational system.
Step 2# Complete your language proficiency tests
The next stage is to pass the appropriate English language proficiency examinations. The minimal IELTS score is 6 bands, which corresponds to CLB 7. At the time of application, your test score should be no more than two years old.
If you speak French, you will have an advantage over other applicants. French language tests, such as the Test d’Evaluation de Francians (TEF), will demonstrate your command of the language.
Step 3# Create an Express Entry profile
To start, you must create an online Express Entry profile. Your age, employment experience, education, language skills, and so on should all be included in your profile. These details will be used to calculate your score.
If you meet the point requirements, you can submit your profile. This will be part of the Express Entry pool.
Step 4# Evaluate your CRS score
If your application is accepted into the Express Entry pool, it is ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Your CRS score is determined by factors such as age, work experience, adaptability, and so on. If you have the required CRS score, your profile is included in the Express Entry pool. To be qualified for the Express Entry program, you must have a minimum of 67 points out of 100.
Step 5# Request an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
If your profile is chosen from the Express Entry pool, you will receive an ITA from the Canadian government, following which you can begin the paperwork for your PR visa.
Step 6# Submit your Canada PR application
Following receipt of the ITA, candidates must determine which Express Entry program (FSWP, FSTP, PNP, or CEC) they have chosen to apply for the Canada PR visa. Candidates will be provided with a checklist of prerequisites related to the program for which they have applied. The following is a general list of requirements:
- Test results in English
- Civil status, such as your birth certificate
- Evidence of your educational achievements
- Proof of your job experience
- Medical Certification
- Police Approval Certificate
- Proof of Funds
- Photos
What is Proof of Funds?
The proof of funds also known as settlement funds, proves that you will not be a burden to the Canadian economy. Many Canadian immigration programs require applicants to provide proof of financial means to settle in the country.
When applying for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), Express Entry candidates must provide proof of funds. Applicants for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) are not required to present proof of funds.
